THE KOLBE CONCEPT
&
HOW IT CAN DIRECTLY IMPACT YOUR BUSINESS
An organization’s greatest competitive advantage lies in it’s employees and building successful teams beyond that of a mere collection of individuals. It is through these synergistically, aligned teams that individual performance increases at a higher level with less effort and thus the company has improved results in many significant areas.
These teams are created through the understanding of conative abilities and how they can be applied into an organization.
Conation is our drive, instinct, necessities, mental energy, innate force and talent. Unlike the Cognitive side of us (Skills, Education, Experience, Knowledge) or our Affective side (Feelings, Personality, Emotions, Motivation), conation is the behavioral reflection of instinct, forming a person’s modus operandi (MO) or ways of striving. Creative instincts are the source of mental energy that drives people to take specific action.
The Kolbe Index is a tool that measures a person’t striving instincts and categorizes them into three operating zones which identify whether a person “initiates”, “accommodates” or “prevents” particular patterns of action.
For a company, conative diversity provides the multiplier effect that converts otherwise limited creative energy of independent contributors into vastly magnified productivity. Any one person, no matter how intelligent and committed to an effort, can contribute only through one zone in each Action Mode. No one can do it all. By combining the effort of other people’s MO’s, a corporation can cover all the areas in Action Modes allowing for diverse solutions and vast capabilities. Some aspects of problem solving will go untried unless a project is undertaken by a group of people with a variety of MO’s.
This is what the Kolbe will do for your company:
➤ Teams can be intelligently formed by strategically combining members to maximize group performance and effort, and therefore creating results
➤ Pinpoint opportunities to improve productivity within any work group
➤ Helps to assess discrepancies between desired and actual methods of operation in an organization
➤ Reduces conflicts of interaction and allows people to understand each others strengths
➤ Find out the missing link in your teams
➤ Creates teams with ideal synergy so that: more gets done in less time, achieve more with fewer people and therefore fewer financial resources.
➤ Working in a Kolbe Structured Team (KST) will reduce the obstacles that cause debilitating stress allowing for less absenteeism and higher job retention rates.
➤ Predetermine the ideal candidate for a specific position in your organization
➤ Break through group inertia and organizational paralysis
➤ Align team member expectations with supervisor requirements
Companies integrating Kolbe’s system into their cultures and giving their people the freedom to be themselves have received tremendous bottom-line pay-offs.

- Xerox Quality Services cut its training design and development time by 50%
- A national, multi-branch financial institution saved $10 million in hiring and training costs
